FIRST LOOK! Baroque

A few months ago Atlus announced they had a new RPG in the works for localization in the U.S. As it turns out this new RPG is none other than Baroque, of Japanese fame. Late last year, sometime in December I believe, Atlus came out in the open and announced the game to the world as “dark, addictively challenging, and totally immersive.” Which sounds all well and good right? Hell ya!
As you can probably imagine, we at RPGhead.com love RPGs, so, it’s with much joy and anticipation that we wait to get our mits on this game. It’s an even better proposition because we get the opportunity to unleash this game onto our Wii which is decidedly lacking in RPG goodness. To quickly summarize the game:
- The game is a hardcore dungeon crawler. Expect tons of corridors, and a whole slew of awesome looking monsters. Dungeon crawlers usually have the best kinds.
- There is no “Game Over” with death. Each time you die you unfold a bit more of the story behind the “forsaken world”.
- As with all dungeon crawlers, expect to find heaps and gobs of loot with which to customize your character. Apparently you can customize them pretty extensively, which is always a good thing.
Not much is known about the actual storyline yet, but that’s alright. For me, I like to know as little as possible about the story for an RPG before I get to play it. It adds greater mystery and an overall more enjoyable time. Keep checking back for more information on Baroque as we get it!
